After the earthquake and the following catastrophe in Japan, the PIR plans to renew the .ORG of Japanese registrants automatically for one year at no cost. More than 15 participating Registrars has committed to waive renewal fee for one year, thus automatically renewing domains with the expiration dates between March 11 – June 11 2011.
Brian Cute, CEO of the Public Interest Registry stressed the need to protect .org registrant in Japan from losing their domain names at a time when people need to focus on sustaining and rebuilding their country.
